Westwood residents and business owners regardless of membership status are invited to attend the next meeting of the Westwood Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (WestCURC) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, in the parlor of Westwood Town Hall.
Community members who attend the meeting will be asked to review and vote on WestCURC’s Neighborhood Business District Support Program proposal for next year.
WestCURC is working to make Westwood’s historic business district more active and vibrant, including a project to slow down traffic along Harrison Avenue. When successful, this project will have several important benefits:
- fewer and less severe vehicular collisions or collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians or bicyclists, resulting in fewer severe injuries and fatalities.
- people will feel more comfortable spending time in the business district,
- cars traveling along Harrison at a slower speed will more likely notice that a particular business exists, encouraging more customers and sales,
- a more vibrant business district will attract other businesses to Westwood spurring development or redevelopment.
Concurrently, WestCURC is working to provide more and improved parking in the business and is developing plans for redevelopment of selected parcels in the historic business district.
